The Origin Story

It took three days of patient waiting and high-value treats before he finally allowed us to bridge the gap and secure him in a carrier.

His first week at Care Vet Clinic was a battle of attrition. Between the severe respiratory infection that made every breath a struggle and the profound malnutrition that had weakened his organs, the prognosis was grim. But Yuba possessed a quiet, stubborn will to survive that surprised even the most seasoned vets. As the weeks turned into months, his skin healed, his appetite returned with a vengeance, and his majestic ginger coat began to reclaim its territory, piece by piece.

Today, Yuba is a striking figure. He is a large-framed ginger tabby with deep amber eyes that carry a weight of wisdom only a senior resident can possess. He carries several scars on his ears and muzzle—badges of honor from his years on the streets—which only add to his distinguished, weathered appearance. He moves with a slow, deliberate grace, a testament to his age and the quiet confidence he has found within our sanctuary. His coat, now thick and plush, is a vibrant sunset orange, often groomed to perfection during his morning sun-basking sessions.

Medical Management

Due to his advanced age and the years of neglect before his rescue, Yuba manages Stage 2 Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). His care regimen is precise: a specialized renal diet to minimize stress on his system and subcutaneous fluids administered twice a week to maintain hydration. He takes his medical interventions with the same stoicism he applies to everything else, often purring softly while receiving his fluids. Our goal for Yuba isn’t a 'cure'—it is the absolute preservation of his comfort, dignity, and joy for every day he has left.
